Certainly by now you’ve heard that Apple officially announced the iPad on Wednesday. It will be available by the end of March 2010 with WIFI only or end of April with WIFI and 3G option.

The iPad looks like a much larger version of the iPhone or iPod Touch. The bigger screen should allow developers to make some outstanding new iPad games and expanded versions of existing iPhone Games. Most current iPhone games will be able to be played on the iPad in a smaller window or in double-size which will scale the graphics up to fill most of the iPad’s screen.

Apparently, its processor is even significantly faster than the iPhone 3GS. This should also allow for more power to create great games. We’re excited to get our hands on a new iPad and see what can be done with it. What do you think?

The rumored Apple Tablet may turn out to be a kick-butt gaming machine.

A bigger screen, hopefully better battery life, and the iPhone OS would make a great thing (the iPhone/iPod Touch) even better.

A lot of questions remain, however. Presumably, the tablet would have much higher resolution than an iPhone. So, for games, they would have to be rewritten to take advantage of the unique screen.

An iPhone-emulation mode could allow existing games to run in a 320×480 mode scaled up, but that probably wouldn’t look too great.

There have been some amazing games released for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Many of these rival, or even surpass games for dedicated gaming machines such as the PSP and Nintendo DS, in terms of 3D graphics and sound.

However, some games are crippled by the lack of any physical control buttons on the iPhone. Creative game developers have offered all kinds of virtual controls on the screen, and utilized the accelerometer. But in the heat of battle, these controls can be cumbersome and slow down game play or interfere with a player’s best performance.

Can the iPhone truly compete with a machine that has many physical buttons that give the player tactile feedback while playing?

What are your thoughts?
